The Trans-Nomad is officially a backcountry stage race with alpine essence. But it really is much more than that, it is a totally different experience to what we are used to, it is a trip through the Pyrenees in a privileged environment, very intense days that combine about 8 hours of mountain biking with a spectacular atmosphere. And finally, it returned in 2021 to the national scene after a year without editing due to the pandemic. And he came back stronger than ever with five stages and two different venues (Benasque and Bielsa).

In the first stage we left Benasque, and crossed paths of Pure Pyrenees. We started with a ski lift that took us to the ski slopes of Cerler. And from there we continue on foot making a lift with the bike on our backs to ascend to Sierra Negra, at an altitude of 2700 meters, to the Pico de Estibafreda, to make one of our mythical high mountain specials, but with a new unprecedented variant at the end.

The landscape is increasingly alpine and the vegetation disappears as we reach the top, to leave us with the incredible views of the north face of the Aneto, the highest peak in the Pyrenees with 3404 meters.

This day will be remembered by all the participants for the cold and wind that whipped us throughout the day, but especially at the summit.

It was the mountain's way of letting us know that this wasn't going to be as easy as we thought.

The second part of the day and after a long ascent we arrive at the Rincón del Cielo in Cerler, where we find one of the unprecedented descents of this race, and which is to date the longest descent of Puro Pirineo.

We will continue with a very long and unprecedented special from the 2100 level that will lead us to our hotel in Benasque.

STAGE 2 (From Benasque to Bielsa)

We start the day with a lift through the Sierra de Chía that climbs us to the port of Sahún, until we leave at an altitude of 1700m to start with the pedaling / portage to the Colladeta (2300m). Here will begin the first special of the day, one of the most beautiful of the race, without much difficulty, will take us to the Ibon de Plan or Bassa de la Mora. A place that looks like something out of a painting. After regrouping, we begin a brief link to the second special of the day, a very long descent that will leave us in Chistau.

Already in the afternoon and after regaining strength in the refreshment station, we took another lift that will bring us closer to the beginning of the track of 11 kilometers of pedaling uphill, to the hill of the Cruz de Guardia, at an altitude of 1900m. Here will begin the third special of the day, which will link with the next two to leave us in Bielsa.

A classic already from Trans-Nomad. The day begins with a short lift that brings us closer to the beginning of the track that will take us to the top of the Comodoto peak. On this climb we contemplate one of the most spectacular views of the circus of Pineta. We can see Monte Perdido in the background, and with the great luck that we have left a spectacular day.

Finally we reach the end of the track and begin a short lift with the bike on our backs, to approach the hill of Comodoto (the peak is on our left). The party begins and after regrouping we all start the first special of the day, which links with a totally unprecedented section to end the morning.

We rest in the refreshment station and continue pedaling along another long track until the third special, a not very long, fun and intense descent that leaves us very close to Bielsa. We cross the river and leave for the last of the day. At the moment we are still alive and whole!

It will be the longest and most demanding stage, but undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and high mountain "made in Trans-Nomad". They took us back to an altitude of 2100 meters and then faced us to cross two valleys until we reached Benasque again.

From the port of Urdiceto we start the adventure of crossing, a spectacular and wild route at more than 2000m high at all times. Lonely and rugged, it shows us its more alpine side. A stage that none of us who lived it can ever forget. We cross to France by Urdiceto and start the portage through the Puerto de la Madera, about 3 hours of portage until we reach the first special of the day. It seems hard when we talk about so much portage time, but we do not mind carrying the bike surrounded by so much natural beauty.

The descent is impressive, all single track with a section in which we have to dismount and make a kind of "ferrata", to continue with the second special that will take us through Viadós to Plan, where they await us with the refreshment and the cars ready for the next lift.

After regaining strength we get into the cars and they go up to the middle of the port of Sahún, towards Benasque again. Two more specials and we will only have one stage left to be finishers!

Rabaltueras and Rabalsorri will be chosen to end the day, two wet and very closed descents for our delight. Everything was going great until the last one where Patricio suffered a rather spectacular fall ... Nothing broken but we got a good scare.

After a lift by car to the Gallinero peak to the 2000m altitude we will make a superenduro through some of the longest and most mythical descents of Puro Pirineo. The first will be the Integral del Gallinero, a descent of about 5km with a very varied terrain, from the prairies of the upper part to the roots and rocks of the lower part, passing through the red lands of small Utah.

Two more short and fun specials in the area and we go to the refreshment station. And although the meters of unevenness already weigh, this already smells like finisher!

We refuel and we start until the last special of this Trans-Nomad, after 12 kilometers of ascent by track we arrive at Pianadonna, one of the most technical and beautiful descents in the area: wet, green, with stone and inclined.

It can be said that it was one of the most enjoyed, full of audience cheering, with the flavor on their lips of being one step away from getting it ... And finally!!

We did it, the ONbike team finished the Trans-Nomad!!

We return to the hotel where Javi, the organizer, gives us our well-deserved medal and the celebration party begins. Antonio manages to finish in second place in E-Bike with the ORBEA Rise and Elena finishes in second place in the girls with the SANTA CRUZ Megatower. And Patricio, ends up whole after the fall and becomes part of the spark of Trans-Nomad along with the rest of the team, which we are sure we have not gone unnoticed in this edition, we have had fun, we have met very healthy people within this sport, and we have enjoyed the landscapes of the Aragonese Pyrenees, under an impeccable organization.

Javi, from Insolito Proyectos, leaves nothing to chance, taking into account each of the participants, making the experience unique for everyone.

So if you ask us, what do we think Trans-Nomad to any of the three... It is one of the best races we have participated in, as more than a race, it has been a super experience for us.
